In February 2020, a group of activist individuals, emboldened by the success of equality marches in other smaller cities – including Koszalin and Gniezno – decided to organize the first march in Pila. Shortly thereafter, the COVID-19 pandemic thwarted those plans. Instead of a march, a more intimate event was organized – a picnic in Park on the Island.

The first Equality March in Pila took place a year later – on August 28, 2021. Approx. 250 people marched through the streets of downtown Pila under the slogan „We were, we are, we will be!”. The event was very positively received by residents and local media.
