We were in the Parliament today!
We met with representatives of the Civic Coalition, Poland 2050 and the Left to remind that the first need of our community is to end hate speech in our country. An end to homophobes, bullying, homophobia and transphobia pouring from the parliamentary rostrum and public media. It’s time to end the hate!
As the LGBT+ community in Poland, represented by 47 non-governmental organizations and informal groups, we demand that politicians from the democratic camp implement the First Aid Package for the LGBT+ community. The main point of the package is the amendment of the Penal Code by extending the current provisions penalizing hate speech to include grounds relating to sexual orientation and gender identity.
We want the new, democratic government to show that it cares about our security, and not just about political games. As organizations, we demand dialogue and cooperation, which is why we expect the new government to act together with us, treating us as a partner in the debate.
We do not give up any demands of the LGBT+ community, but we first demand urgent first aid from the new government – a law that will ensure the safety of LGBT+ people living in Poland.
What is a First Aid Package?
Amendment to the Penal Code – prohibition of hate speech based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Depoliticization of public media and the National Broadcasting Council.
Creating a channel of cooperation with LGBT+ organizations at the government level.
Suspension of ongoing grant competitions of the National Institute of Freedom and the Justice Fund and control of resolved grant competitions.
Dissociating ourselves from the discriminatory policy of the previous government.
